Mansur Yavaş: Trial without detention should be the principle
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş criticized the decision to arrest Beykoz Mayor Köseler in a statement made on his social media account.
Pointing out that the law must operate impartially and free from pressure, Mansur Yavaş stated the following:
"The fact that Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was arrested after his statement was taken exactly 4 days after he was detained raises serious questions regarding the principles of the rule of law.
The law must operate in a manner that is free from pressure, impartial, and transparent.
A mayor who has come to office through elections facing such a process means interference not only with him but also with the will of the citizens who voted for him.
The right to a fair trial must be guaranteed for everyone; trial without detention should be the principle."
Beykoz Belediye Başkanı Alaattin Köseler’in gözaltına alındıktan tam 4 gün sonra ifadesinin alınması ve ardından tutuklanması, hukuk devleti ilkeleri açısından ciddi soru işaretleri barındırıyor.
