March 8 is over, suspended metro services return to 'normal'

In Istanbul, services on the M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line, the Taksim station, the Istiklal Street entrance of the Şişhane station, and the F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line have returned to normal.

In an announcement made on Metro Istanbul's social media account, it was stated, "The M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line Taksim station, the Şişhane station Istiklal Street entrance/exit, and the F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line have been opened for operation."

WHAT HAPPENED?

As part of International Women's Day on March 8, women in various cities across Turkey announced they would take to the streets for various events, and in Istanbul, a call was made to gather at Taksim Square for the Feminist Night March, as is the case every year.

Following this call, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced that as of 14:00 on March 8, the Taksim and Şişhane stations on the M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman metro line would be closed.

The Governor's Office also stated that the Istiklal Street entrance of the Şişhane station and the F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line would remain closed until further notice.
