March 8 statement from Saraç, the first female President of the Istanbul Bar Association
Attorney Filiz Saraç, the first female President of the Istanbul Bar Association in its 147-year history, has issued a statement regarding March 8 International Women's Day.
Attorney Filiz Saraç, the first female President of the Istanbul Bar Association who served between the 2022-2024 terms, stated in a post on her X social media account: "We will continue our struggle shoulder to shoulder, women and men. We will continue to work for a world where femicides end, where there is no violence or discrimination, and where women live free and equal as they deserve. As Atatürk said, 'Is it possible that a society can rise to the skies while one half of it remains chained to the earth!'"
Saraç expressed the following:
"It is a symbol of the struggle of women for equal rights, justice, and freedom. In this centuries-long struggle, every achievement has been possible through the courage, labor, and solidarity of women. As a lawyer walking this path, I carry the pride of being the first female president of the Istanbul Bar Association. But I know that this success is not mine alone; it is the success of all my female colleagues who struggle in the legal world, in courtrooms, in bar associations, on the podiums, and in the field. Every area where women exist becomes stronger, changes, and becomes fairer. However, there is still a long way to go. We will continue our struggle shoulder to shoulder, women and men. We will continue to work for a world where femicides end, where there is no violence or discrimination, and where women live free and equal as they deserve. As Atatürk said, 'Is it possible that a society can rise to the skies while one half of it remains chained to the earth!' I celebrate March 8 International Women's Day for our female colleagues and all working women in every field of life. Happy day to all women who walk with courage for justice and equality!"
