A 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Ayvacık, Çanakkale. Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated that the region is located on the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault Zone, warning that "the Marmara region and the North Aegean are accumulating stress."

Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made the following statement on his social media account:
"A 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Edremit, in the Aegean Sea, on the Edremit Fault Zone. This fault zone represents the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault Zone. A frightening 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in this gulf in 1944. The Marmara region and the North Aegean are generally accumulating stress."
