Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made the following statement on his social media account:
"A 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Edremit, in the Aegean Sea, on the Edremit Fault Zone. This fault zone represents the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault Zone. A frightening 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in this gulf in 1944. The Marmara region and the North Aegean are generally accumulating stress."
