MASAK uncovers: Million-lira fraud at animal shelter

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch determined that suspects who established an animal association in Silivri were embezzling donations made by animal lovers. The teams, which conducted an investigation into the matter, also received support from MASAK.

THEY TRANSFERRED 30 MILLION LIRAS TO THEIR ACCOUNTS

According to DHA's report; investigations conducted by MASAK revealed that the association's executives began collecting donations between 2021 and 2024, and that 37 million 323 thousand 777 liras had entered the association's accounts between 2021 and 2024.

According to the report prepared by MASAK, it was determined that 30 million liras of this money originated from donation-based inflows, and that these funds were transferred to the personal accounts of the association president, association executives, and individuals in the position of association members through approximately 3 thousand transactions.

It was also determined that the suspects attempted to launder a portion of the donation money through a company providing cosmetic supplies, using descriptions such as expenses and invoices.

5 PEOPLE DETAINED

Police teams launched an operation targeting a total of 5 suspects, including the owner of the cosmetic company, who was found to have transferred the donation money received by the association to their personal account. In simultaneous operations carried out this morning, the 5 suspects were apprehended and detained.
