Mass layoffs at Starbucks

Starbucks, which will lay off 1,100 employees from its global corporate team, announced that baristas in its stores are not included in the layoffs.

According to a Reuters report, Niccol sent a letter to employees on Monday, informing them that the company would notify the affected staff by midday Tuesday. In his letter to employees regarding the matter, Niccol stated, "Our goal is to work more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity, and ensure better integration."

It is noted that Starbucks, which has 16,000 corporate employees worldwide under the parent company, includes staff such as warehouse personnel who are not affected by the process in this figure. In the statement made by the company, it was also emphasized that baristas in the company's stores were not included in the layoffs.

Niccol had made a statement in January and signaled that layoffs would occur. In his statement, Niccol had said that the corporate layoffs would be announced at the beginning of March. In his statement, Niccol said, "Our size and structure can slow us down with too many layers, small team managers, and roles focused on coordinating work." Niccol also stated that they are testing order algorithms to reduce the number of items on the Starbucks menu and to better manage crowds.
