Mass pool poisoning in Giresun: 53 people hospitalized!

In Giresun, 53 people, 48 of whom are children, were poisoned at an Olympic swimming pool belonging to the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. 

21 people, 7 of whom are children, were taken to the hospital by ambulance, while 32 people, mostly children, were taken to the hospital by their families.

A statement regarding the incident was released by the Giresun Governor's Office. The statement included the following remarks: 

"Today, at approximately 10:30, a report was received that syncope (fainting) incidents were occurring at the Olympic Swimming Pool located in the Seldeğirmeni neighborhood of Giresun's city center. Initially, 5 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and our medical teams, who reached the scene rapidly, determined that multiple children were showing symptoms of fainting, nausea, and vomiting. 17 children affected by the incident were transferred to the Giresun Training and Research Hospital for Obstetrics and Pediatrics, and 4 adults were transferred to Prof. Dr. A. İlhan Özdemir State Hospital, where their treatments are ongoing. Our health, security, fire department, and AFAD units are investigating the cause of the incident in a coordinated manner, and necessary precautions have been taken at the scene. Detailed investigations by our relevant teams regarding the exact cause of the incident are continuing."

In an additional update provided by the Governor's Office Press Unit, it was stated that the number of people hospitalized had risen to a total of 53, consisting of 48 children and 5 adults.
