Mayor announces: 'Debt has reached 3 billion liras'
Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler stated that the municipality has a debt of 3 billion TL. Köseler said, "The debt burden could reach 3 billion liras by the end of the year if the current broken financial structure is not corrected."
Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, who took over the municipality after it passed from the AKP to the CHP in Istanbul, made assessments regarding his first month in office and the financial structure of the municipality.
Stating that he will manage the municipality with a transparent management approach, Köseler said the following:
"To date, we have not stopped, terminated, or disrupted any of our municipality's services. We have not canceled any sports events. We have not cut social aid. We have not laid off any of our personnel. As of today, we have deposited the outstanding salaries and social assistance payments of the service personnel in our culture and sports directorates into their accounts. As you may recall, the objections made to the local elections and the subsequent 9-day holiday delayed our process of taking over the municipality by 15 days. During this process, we saw that the Beykoz Municipality's debts from the previous term are increasing day by day due to the interest burden and uncalculated severance pay.
We also learned that there are hidden debts remaining from works carried out without tenders. This debt burden, which does not stem from our activities as the new administration, could reach 3 billion liras by the end of the year if the current broken financial structure is not corrected."
WE STAND BEHIND ALL OUR PROMISES
"We have immediately rolled up our sleeves for sound and transparent financial management and have started working," said Köseler, adding, "We are taking care to use our resources economically and according to their order of importance. We stand behind all the promises we made during our election campaign. With your support, we will implement them all over time. We will manage Beykoz with you and in a transparent manner. Know that; Our Work, Our Power is Beykoz."
"WE HAVE NOT LAID OFF ANYONE"
Stating that the Beykoz Municipality's debt is approaching 3 billion liras, Köseler said that despite this financial picture, they have not laid off any personnel, are continuing social aid, and that services are being maintained without interruption.
