Mayor calls for 'aerial support' for fire in Dalaman

A forest fire broke out for unknown reasons at around 19:40 today in the Okçular neighborhood of Ortaca, and at around 20:25 in the Taşbaşı neighborhood of the Dalaman district. Firefighting and emergency response teams from the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to both regions.

A statement from the Ortaca Municipality indicated that the fire has been brought under control. The statement said, "The forest fire that broke out in the Okçular Gapız area of our Ortaca district has been brought under control through the rapid and dedicated intervention of the teams. We thank all the firefighting teams, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to extinguishing the fire before it could spread. We remind everyone once again that we must be more careful and sensitive about protecting our forests together."

FIRE CONTINUES IN DALAMAN

In the Taşbaşı neighborhood of the Dalaman district, the fire grew due to the effect of the wind and spread over a large area. Some houses were damaged in the fire. While ground intervention by the teams continues, Dalaman Mayor Sezer Durmuş made a statement in the fire zone.

Durmuş said, "The fire started in the lower part of Taşbaşı. There is a very large fire. We request that our citizens who are nearby come urgently with water tankers from the road above. We urgently need water tankers. Our Metropolitan Municipality and Forestry Directorate teams are intervening, but we are falling short. We urgently need aerial support. Otherwise, it will grow larger. There is a very strong wind. There is no chance of stopping the fire in this wind. We need support very urgently."
