Mayor Karaçay takes office after receiving mandate in the only municipality won by TİP

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) candidate Emrah Karaçay, who won the election in Samandağ, Hatay—the only district in Turkey where the party secured a victory—has received his mandate and taken office as Mayor.

The Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) participated in the election race in many locations during the March 31 local elections held across the country last weekend.

The only place TİP won was the Samandağ district of Hatay. TİP candidate Emrah Karaçay finished the election ahead of the CHP candidate. Mayor Karaçay, whose victory was confirmed by final results, received his mandate from the district election board and began his duties.

Stating that his first act would be to hand the municipality back to the people, Mayor Karaçay said, "First of all, I would like to thank our people and our volunteers. We may be the only municipality won by the Workers' Party of Turkey, but with our administration, which will serve as an example to Turkey, we can guarantee that both TİP and all leftist movements will win municipalities in many places five years from now. Our first act will be to hand over the municipality, which has been taken in the name of the people for years but not managed for the people, back to the people. Today, we have taken over a municipality for the people, and we will carry out all our actions to be the people's municipality."

Stating that Samandağ will develop through production and that the municipality will shoulder the burden in terms of production, Mayor Karaçay said, "During the election process, we said we would be a Samandağ that produces. Samandağ will produce; we are aware that we cannot get anywhere without producing. Samandağ will produce in terms of agriculture, as a center of faith, and as a center of tourism, but Samandağ will always produce. Samandağ will be carried further with its producing municipality. The Samandağ Mayor's office will have a door, but it will not be knocked on because the Samandağ Mayor will constantly be in the field. We identified the problems in the field, we experienced the problems in the field, and we will solve the problems in the field. We will constantly be among the people and in the field."
