Mayor's son found shot at home: Gunshot wound to the head

The incident occurred in the Fener neighborhood of the Muratpaşa district. According to information obtained, E.U. (17), the son of Ümit Uysal, who has been the CHP mayor of Muratpaşa Municipality for three terms, was found in the bathroom of their home with a gunshot wound to the head.

His relatives, who found the teenager covered in blood, took him to a nearby private hospital by their own means. E.U., who was conscious upon arrival at the hospital, was taken into surgery.

Upon hearing the news, CHP party officials and municipal staff arrived at the hospital's emergency department and began waiting. It was learned that E.U., who underwent surgery, is not in life-threatening condition and his treatment is ongoing. Mayor Uysal, who had gone to Istanbul for a meeting, reportedly set off for Antalya on the first available flight upon receiving the news.

"HIS TREATMENT CONTINUES"

Meanwhile, the Antalya Police Department issued a written statement regarding the incident. The statement said, "It has been observed that news and posts titled 'Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal's son found shot in the head at home' have been shared on some social media accounts and press/media outlets on November 8, 2024.

Upon learning that an individual with a gunshot wound to the head had been brought to a private hospital in the Muratpaşa district of our province on November 8, 2024, investigations by our Police Department units determined that the wounded individual was E.U.U. and that he had attempted suicide; it was stated that his treatment is ongoing."

Mayor Uysal also stated in a post on his social media account that he thanked everyone who sent their well wishes and prayed for his son, saying, "He underwent a successful surgery; the next 72 hours are very important. It is impossible for me to express my feelings as a father right now. I believe the public will show understanding, and I thank everyone whose heart is with us once again."
