Mayor walks 200 meters blindfolded with a cane
Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal walked approximately 200 meters blindfolded and using a cane to draw attention to the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
Afyonkarahisar Municipality held a walking event for the May 10-16 Week of the Disabled.
Following the walk, which lasted from the city center's Imaret Mosque to Zafer Square, Mayor Burcu Köksal gave a speech addressing individuals with disabilities, emphasizing that they should have equal rights and opportunities in life.
Stating that she was happy to crown the celebration of Disability Week by spending this valuable day together with disabled citizens, Mayor Köksal said: “This meaningful walk, where we walked blindfolded, is very important for understanding the difficulties our disabled citizens face and for building empathy. Every step we took while blindfolded is a symbol of overcoming obstacles and increasing awareness. The purpose of establishing the Disability Services Unit as soon as I took office was to make Afyonkarahisar more accessible and inclusive and to raise awareness. We will work together to understand the challenges they face and produce solutions.”
Hakan Erdoğan, President of the Six-Point Association of the Blind and Disability Services Unit Officer, thanked Mayor Burcu Köksal for her support.
At the end of the program, Mayor Köksal spent time closely with the disabled citizens.
