MEB statement on ÇEDES: 'DİB personnel are not involved in in-class activities'

Under the ÇEDES project, the appointment of imams and spiritual advisors to schools continues.

MEB sources have issued a statement regarding the practice, which has sparked public reaction.

According to a report by Esma Altın from Türkiye newspaper, the MEB's response to the criticisms is as follows:

"Participation in the project is not mandatory; students can join the values club entirely on a voluntary basis with parental consent.

Contrary to what has been reflected in the public sphere, it is not the case that DİB personnel are involved in in-class activities within the project. Furthermore, no appointments are being made to schools by the DİB. There is no requirement for the values club teacher to be a religious culture and ethics teacher. Teachers from every branch can participate in the values club. There is no provision within the project for the assignment of spiritual advisors to schools.

The claim that teachers in schools are insufficient or being sidelined does not reflect the truth. For activities conducted outside of school, GSB and DİB personnel plan activities in coordination with the values club teacher. Through ÇEDES, visits to nursing homes and historical sites are being conducted. Sporting competitions are being organized. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to raising individuals who are aware of their social responsibilities, who discover their interests and talents in art and sports, who uphold civilizational values, who think universally, who keep up with the times, who value national, spiritual, human, moral, and cultural values, and who can establish the relationship between human, city, culture, and civilization."
