Mehmet Metiner visits Selahattin Demirtaş: 'We discussed the past, the present, and the future'

Former AKP MP and Yeni Şafak columnist Mehmet Metiner announced that he visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held in Edirne F-Type Prison. 

Stating that they "spoke for two full hours," Metiner said, "I did not see an angry person before me, but rather a politician who, with maturity and wisdom, says that building the 'Century of Turkey' together by ridding it of weapons will benefit everyone, who says that everyone wins with peace, and who places peace above all else." 

Sharing his thoughts on the visit via his social media account, Metiner noted the following: 

"Today, I met with Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held in Edirne F-Type Prison.

Our meeting, which began at 1:00 PM, ended at 3:00 PM.

We spoke for two full hours.

We discussed the process in detail.

We discussed the past, the present, and the future.

What Demirtaş said regarding the process was very important.

His remarks on the unconditional laying down of arms were very important.

His comments on the issue of democratization not being understood as a condition or a requirement were very important.

His discomfort with rumors that he would be released along with the process was noteworthy.

His words regarding the error of reducing the peace process to such personal expectations or demands were extremely important.

His criticisms regarding the perception of democratization demands as if they were a condition or requirement for laying down arms were highly important.

His words, 'We are not demanding, we are promising. We are promising to build and grow our own state and country together,' were very, very important for those who want to understand the new paradigm upon which the process is based.

His emphasis on the necessity of deciding on politics instead of weapons was very important.

In summary, we had a very productive and useful meeting for two hours.
