Mehmet Uçum issues statement on 'corruption investigations': 'All posts and news reports are lies, legal action has been initiated'
Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum, who was alleged to be linked to certain investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has issued a statement regarding the matter.
Some suspects who were issued detention warrants and subsequently detained as part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into The Plaza Bodrum (Paramount Hotel) regarding "establishing an organization," "usury," and "laundering assets derived from crime" had drawn attention due to their proximity to certain figures in the palace.
Within the scope of the investigation, detention warrants were issued for Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, Cihan Ekşioğlu, Çağlar Şendil, Melike Yüksel, Sinan Görkem Gökçe, Şaban Kayıkçı, and Alpan Keskin. In the operation carried out, suspects Ekşioğlu, Kayıkçı, Şendil, Yüksel, and Gökçe were detained.
It was alleged that some of the detained individuals, Cihan Ekşioğlu and Şaban Kayıkçı, had ties to certain figures in the palace.
IT WAS ALLEGED THAT SOME TRANSACTIONS WERE RELATED TO UÇUM
It had been alleged that some individuals mentioned in these investigations were linked to Chief Advisor to the President and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Legal Policies Board, Mehmet Uçum. Accounts close to the government claimed that Mehmet Uçum supported Can Holding through lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, who is currently under arrest and facing a lawsuit with a request for up to 12 years in prison on charges of "mediating bribery."
TAYYAR ALSO POINTED TO UÇUM
AKP member Şamil Tayyar had claimed that pressure was being put on Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek to close the file on Rezan Epözdemir. This claim by Şamil Tayyar was interpreted as pointing to Mehmet Uçum, and Uçum's camp responded harshly to Tayyar.
STATEMENT CAME FROM MEHMET UÇUM
Following these allegations appearing on some news websites and social media posts, a statement was made by Mehmet Uçum. Uçum's lawyer, Zeynep Yıldırım, stated on behalf of her client that the allegations were baseless, that the news reports and social media posts were 'lies,' and that they had initiated legal proceedings.
The statement included the following remarks:
It is observed that the name of my client, Mehmet Uçum, is again being intentionally mentioned in some media outlets regarding an investigation initiated by the prosecutor's office. Similar baseless and fake news reports have been made before. Each time, these have been denied by us, and legal actions have been initiated.
My client has not been practicing law since 2015, when his public service began. Therefore, he has no connection with any company due to the legal profession. Furthermore, my client's meticulous approach to the independence and impartiality of the judiciary is well known by all relevant circles.
All of the posts and news reports containing slander, which aim to create a completely false perception and cause confusion regarding my client Mehmet Uçum through ongoing investigations by certain circles whose connections and affiliations will be revealed by judicial processes, are lies.
It is clear that an attack has been made on the personal rights of my client through unfair and untrue posts and news reports that have no legal explanation, made with the intent to harm my client's public duty and the general legal issues he works on for Turkey.
As in the past, these posts and news reports, which are devoid of all moral, ethical, and human values, are contrary to the truth, contain slander, and attempt to discredit my client, are being followed seriously by us. We continue to file our applications for legal proceedings to ensure that those who make these baseless and fake posts and news reports, which cannot be protected by law, are punished in the most severe manner.
We respectfully present this to the public's information.
