Melih Gökçek's first comment on the judicial control decision regarding his son and daughter-in-law: It does not mean they are guilty

Evaluating the judicial control decision, Gökçek said, "The imposition of a judicial control decision does not mean that a person is guilty.

We respect the investigation of the process in all its aspects and the final assessment being made by the independent judiciary," he said. Gökçek also noted that he has serious doubts that the statements made by journalist Murat Ağırel, who was also questioned as part of the file, do not reflect the truth.

Following the testimony of former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Melih Gökçek as part of an investigation into allegations that "his family made real estate investments through the Hamag company established in Germany and transferred unregistered funds to companies abroad," his son Ahmet Gökçek and daughter-in-law Hülya Gökçek also testified today as "suspects" in the same investigation. Melih Gökçek's son Ahmet Gökçek and daughter-in-law Hülya Gökçek were released with a judicial control measure prohibiting them from traveling abroad.

Gökçek made the following statements in a post on social media:

"Within the scope of the investigation conducted regarding Ahmet Gökçek and Hülya Gökçek, a judicial control measure in the form of a travel ban abroad has been applied by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace.

Such judicial control measures are frequently resorted to during the investigation phase. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the decision rendered is ordinary, reasonable, and a natural part of the investigation process.

The imposition of a judicial control decision does not mean that a person is guilty. We respect the investigation of the process in all its aspects and the final assessment being made by the independent judiciary.

Furthermore, we have serious doubts that the statements made by Murat Ağırel in his capacity as a witness do not reflect the truth. I have been informed that 11 separate pieces of information and documents, which are considered to support these allegations, have been submitted to our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by Hülya Gökçek and that the necessary complaints have been filed.

The legal evaluation of the aforementioned allegations against Murat Ağırel and the submitted documents is, of course, at the discretion of the judicial authorities. Our expectation is not for anyone to be granted privileges, but for law and justice to be applied equally to everyone. We have full confidence in the Turkish judiciary."
