Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek, against whom the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation, has broken his silence with a statement made on his social media account.
It was announced that an investigation had been launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office following the emergence of allegations regarding former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek's assets in Germany. Gökçek made his first statement following the news of the investigation.

In his statement regarding the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Gökçek used the following expressions:
"ACCORDING TO INFORMATION THAT HAS JUST REACHED THE MEDIA, THE ANKARA CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE HAS LAUNCHED AN EX OFFICIO INVESTIGATION TO REVEAL THE MATERIAL TRUTH REGARDING THE ALLEGATIONS MADE BY MURAT AĞIREL ABOUT ME... The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had also announced that an investigation had been launched following allegations appearing in some press and media outlets.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's statement included the following:
"An ex officio investigation has been launched by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to reveal the material truth regarding the allegations made in some press and media outlets that unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad by İbrahim Melih Gökçek. Presented for public information."
