Meral Akşener breaks silence on Mesut Özarslan! Did she persuade him to join the AKP?
Meral Akşener has issued a statement following allegations that she persuaded Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan to resign from the CHP and join the AKP. Speaking to Aytunç Erkin, Akşener stated that she has no contact with Özarslan, reacting to the claims by saying, "It has become a tradition to bring up my name to cover up problems and debates in every problematic situation."
Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from the CHP, has become the center of the political agenda.
OPEN DOOR TO THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE
Özarslan, who has been the subject of allegations that he will join the AKP, said in a statement yesterday, "I am continuing my service as an independent. We have not sat down and discussed anything. Neither the AK Party nor the MHP is distant to me," leaving the door open to the People's Alliance.
"AKŞENER PERSUADED HIM" CLAIM
As the crisis continues, journalist Deniz Zeyrek claimed that the person who persuaded Özarslan to join the AKP was Meral Akşener, the founding leader of the IYI Party.
Meral Akşener broke her silence on the matter. Nefes columnist Aytunç Erkin carried the conversation he had with Akşener to his column today.
In her statement to Erkin, Akşener said, "I have no contact with Mr. Mesut. I have not made any attempt regarding his changing parties or resigning. It has become a tradition to bring up my name to cover up problems and debates in every problematic situation. I strongly condemn this attitude."
