Meriç Demir Kahraman reacts to law enforcement officers who subjected her husband to violence: 'Who gave the order?'

Tayfun Kahraman, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison in the Gezi Park trial and has been incarcerated for 25 months, is also battling multiple sclerosis (MS).

His wife, Meriç Demir Kahraman, continues to bring her husband's struggles to the public agenda through her social media posts, where she shares updates on his health and emphasizes how such a medical condition makes prison conditions significantly more difficult.

In her latest social media post, Meriç Demir Kahraman addressed the violence her husband was subjected to while being taken for a medical examination.

Stating that the handcuffs on her husband were tightened excessively, Meriç Demir Kahraman asked the question, "Who gave this order?"

Today, on August 29, 2024, while my husband and my daughter's father, Dr. Tayfun Kahraman, was going for a routine neurology check-up due to his MS, why did the law enforcement officers accompanying him keep his handcuffs tightened for 6 and a half hours from the morning onwards in a way that would stop the blood flow in his wrists and cause physical harm? Who gave the order?

Are you aware that when my husband said he was being harmed, they tortured him by tightening his handcuffs even more out of spite, leading to his wrists being covered in wounds?

Even though it is prohibited by law and regulation for law enforcement to be present during a doctor's examination, did they act on orders when they refused to leave the examination room despite the doctor and Tayfun Kahraman reminding them of the law and asking them to leave? Who do these individuals, who do not recognize the law, derive their power from?

Where do these individuals find the audacity to threaten my husband, who wanted a report to be filed regarding the unfair treatment and torture?

While statements regarding Tayfun's innocence are coming from all segments of society, how should we interpret such treatment, and what message is it intended to send to whom?

You have taken away our freedom, you have trampled on the law. But we will not let you touch our dignity!

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel sent a message of support to Meriç Demir Kahraman, who shared the violence inflicted upon her husband by law enforcement on her social media account. Quoting Kahraman's message, Özel wrote:

"The treatment of Tayfun Kahraman is neither legal, nor conscientious, nor moral.

As the CHP family, we consider this treatment to have been done to us, to all of us.

We will immediately take the necessary steps. Those who made Tayfun, who is in prison innocently and in place of all of us, live through this day will be held accountable."
