Speaking to 12punto about the incident, his wife, Meriç Demir Kahraman, stated, "Tayfun was left waiting in that vehicle in the August heat with the engine off. The handcuff marks on his wrists did not fade for 2 days." Kahraman issued a call to the Constitutional Court (AYM).

Urban planner Tayfun Kahraman, who was arrested and sentenced to 18 years in prison as part of the Gezi Park trial, continues to struggle with MS while in prison conditions. Footage of the torture Kahraman was subjected to during his transfer to the hospital on August 8, 2024, due to his illness, has caused widespread repercussions. Kahraman's handcuffs were applied so tightly that they threatened to stop blood flow. When Kahraman asked for them to be loosened, the officers tightened them even further.

Regarding the footage of the torture, Tayfun Kahraman's wife, Meriç Demir Kahraman, made statements to 12punto. She said, "Tayfun has been an MS patient since 2005. The process that is the subject of the case took place in August 2024. He had been transferred 8 times before that. We know that he was not subjected to any ill-treatment during those 8 transfers. However, there are many disturbing aspects to the transfer on August 8, 2024."

Stating, "We know that the handcuffs were applied very tightly," Meriç Demir Kahraman said the following regarding the torture her husband was subjected to:

"First of all, we know that the handcuffs were applied very tightly. Tayfun asked the officers, 'Could you please loosen them a little?' However, not only did they not loosen them, they tightened them even more. Tayfun did not resist, nor did he obstruct their duties. While he could have easily been left in the hospital's detention room, he was left waiting in that vehicle in the August heat with the engine off."

'THEY EVEN ENTERED THE EXAMINATION'

Meriç Demir Kahraman stated that the torture her husband was subjected to was not only physical, and said:

"Another point is that during the same transfer, despite the requests of both Tayfun and the doctor for them to wait at the door, the security officers also entered the examination room. Following my public disclosure of these events, an ex officio investigation was launched by the Ministry of Justice. The prosecutor's office collected evidence with great diligence. They sent Tayfun for a medical report regarding the assault. Even 2 days later, the marks of the handcuffs were still on his wrists. They had been applied that tightly."

Speaking about Tayfun Kahraman's MS, Meriç Demir Kahraman said, "He needs to be constantly monitored for both MRIs and physical examinations. We do not know how the prison environment affects his health. Many factors such as nutritional conditions and contact with fresh air are important factors regarding his illness."

'OUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN WAITING FOR 15 MONTHS'

The Silivri District Governorship decided that the events took place within the scope of legal and regulatory powers, and therefore there was no need for an investigation. Meriç Demir Kahraman said, "We do not know why the Silivri District Governorship decided that there was no need for an investigation."

Calling out to the Constitutional Court (AYM), Meriç Demir Kahraman said, "We request that our file, which has been waiting at the Constitutional Court for 15 months, be prioritized and decided upon, taking into account Tayfun's health conditions."
