Ekrem İmamoğlu delivered a message regarding Gaza during his speech.
"THE WEST IS ALSO WATCHING THIS MASSACRE"
Highlights from İmamoğlu's speech are as follows:
"Unfortunately, this week has once again been marked by a horrific human tragedy. Those of you who attended the 'Europe Day' celebrations on Tuesday will remember my words regarding Israel's military operation in Rafah. I want to underline once again that Israel's attack on Rafah is inhumane. Rafah is the only Palestinian city that Israeli forces have not destroyed in Gaza. Two-thirds of Gaza's population, meaning approximately 1.5 million Palestinians, have been displaced from their homes and have taken refuge in Rafah while fleeing the war. This attack on a city that is already defenseless and overcrowded is beyond cruelty. Thousands of Israeli citizens are organizing demonstrations for their government to accept a ceasefire. To date, 34,000 people, 14,000 of whom are children, have lost their lives. How many more lives will this so-called 'existential war' of Netanyahu cost? Israel is pursuing 'total victory,' and the West is watching this massacre. What is the limit of this, in quotation marks, 'victory quota,' the credit extended to Israel? How many more people will have to lose their lives?
"I CALL ON THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO MAKE AN EFFORT"
During this difficult period, we will do everything in our power to help those in need in Palestine. I call on the international community to make greater efforts for peace. This weekend, I will host Ramallah Mayor Issa Kassis in Istanbul to discuss potential cooperation opportunities and to better understand the dire situation in Palestine. It is extremely disturbing that the international community does not take a stronger stance regarding the tragedy unfolding in Gaza. This attitude displayed by a large part of the international community in the face of the tragedy we are experiencing threatens the possibility of global peace and stability, which should be built on law and ethical values. The accumulation we have achieved so far in the name of universal human values is being damaged. There will be only one winner of this: regimes that do not care about democracy and human rights. On the other hand, this reckless attitude of Israel is spreading antisemitism in the world. We are facing the risk of living in a world where antisemitism, Islamophobia, and racism are stronger than ever since the Second World War."
