Mesut Yar becomes a candidate for Datça Mayor

Journalist and presenter Mesut Yar announced that he is a candidate for the CHP nomination for Mayor of Datça in the March 31, 2024, local elections.

In his statement, Mesut Yar said, "Datça is a very special place for me. I was born and raised in Datça, and I spent my childhood here. I love Datça very much and I want to work for Datça. I want to fight to make Datça a more livable city."

Yar stated that he has projects regarding the protection of Datça's natural beauty, the development of tourism, the improvement of education and health services, and the increase of employment and social assistance. Yar also expressed that he would carry out work to protect Datça's cultural and historical heritage.

WHY DID HE LEAVE SÖZCÜ?

Journalist and presenter Mesut Yar announced his departure from the channel in a statement he made on the program Sabahın Sözcüsü, which aired on Sözcü TV on December 3, 2023.

In his statement, Yar said, "I made this decision because I believe the broadcaster has made certain decisions regarding me, and these decisions would negatively affect the format and content of my program."

Yar stated that the channel was attempting to impose further restrictions on him regarding shortening the duration of the program, determining his guests, and setting the agenda. Yar expressed that he believed these decisions threatened the independence and quality of his program.

Yar was the host of Sabahın Sözcüsü, one of the channel's most popular programs. It has not yet been clarified whether the program will continue or be broadcast with another host following Yar's departure.
