The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has issued warnings for heavy snow, sleet, and strong rainfall for many provinces.
The warnings issued by the MGM are as follows:
- Starting from tonight, heavy (10-20 cm) snow and sleet are expected in Kars, Ardahan, and Ağrı, particularly in their northern and eastern districts, as well as in the surroundings of Erzurum and the high altitudes of Muş. In Bitlis, the northern and southern districts of Van, the high altitudes of Siirt, the high altitudes of eastern Şırnak, and especially in the high-altitude areas of Hakkari, heavy (over 20 cm) snow and sleet are expected. Caution and preparedness are advised against potential disruptions to transportation, icing, frost, avalanches, and blizzards.
- According to the latest assessments, precipitation currently seen as rain in the Eastern Black Sea region and as sleet and snow at altitudes above 1600 meters is expected to turn into heavy sleet and snow at altitudes above 500 meters in Trabzon, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Rize, and Artvin after the evening hours as the weather cools. Caution and preparedness are advised against potential disruptions to transportation, icing and frost at high altitudes, and the risk of avalanches in high and sloping areas due to heavy snowfall.
- According to the latest assessments, the precipitation expected in the south of Central Anatolia starting from tomorrow (Sunday) morning is expected to be heavy rain in the north and west of Konya and the south of Aksaray, turning into sleet over time, and heavy snow at high altitudes. Caution and preparedness are advised against potential negative impacts such as floods, water inundation, and disruptions to transportation.
- In the Southern Aegean, the wind is expected to blow as a storm at force 6 to 8 (50-75 km/h) from the north and northeast, and from the southeast in the south (between Fethiye and Kaş) starting from the early hours of tomorrow (Sunday). The storm is expected to lose its effect in the south on Sunday afternoon and in the north on Tuesday morning (23.01.2024).
