Metin Külünk's highly debated university critique: What is International Relations doing in Gümüşhane?

Former AKP deputy Metin Külünk, known for his closeness to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has made striking criticisms.

Drawing attention to the lack of meritocracy, Külünk called for justice.

"WHO IS GETTING IN?"

Külünk said, "'I want to pursue an academic career at a university, but even though I meet the requirements, I cannot get in.' This is a cry we hear very often. Who is getting in? It's either a student hand-picked by the department head, or someone chosen by the rector who determines the staff positions," he said.

"WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS DOING IN GÜMÜŞHANE?"

Külünk used the following expressions:

It's just a revolving door among themselves now; can science come out of this? Can a Harvard come out of this? A Georgetown? A London School of Economics?

I mean, we have a few universities that are at a high level in this sense, but what else? This modeling... I mean, what is International Relations doing in Gümüşhane?

A law faculty in Gümüşhane?

Or let's say... a law faculty everywhere in Anatolia...

"ISN'T IT A PITY FOR THEM?"

Hundreds of thousands of our children who have graduated from university, law graduates who stand at the doors of public institutions saying, "Let me handle the legal and commercial affairs of this institution"

Isn't it a pity for them?

Departments are being opened without any planning, and then you have hundreds, thousands of university graduates waiting for state positions. Who has the right to shatter these children's dreams? Who has the right?

"AN EDUCATION REVOLUTION IS ESSENTIAL"

Therefore, an education revolution is essential! What is this rote learning in high schools? Let's abolish this; let everyone discover their own talent. I mean, we are equalizing everyone now. With what? With the same questions.

Why? Why? Why? What is the reason? What is the reason? Why, why, why, why? Let the values of this country, let's pave the way for their own internal realizations. Now, one of my grandchildren has very strong social intelligence, and the other has mathematical intelligence. Why are we equalizing the two? Let them stand out with their social intelligence, let them emerge according to their own talents.

SOLUTION: MERIT, QUALIFICATION, RIGHT, JUSTICE
