Metro Istanbul announces metro stations to be closed on May 1st: Decision by the Istanbul Governor's Office

According to the announcement by Metro Istanbul, the Şişhane, Taksim, and Osmanbey stations on the M2 metro line will be closed to service. Additionally, the F1 funicular leading to Taksim and the T3 Moda tram in Kadıköy will also be closed.

Stating that metro trains will stop at Mecidiyeköy, Metro Istanbul announced that all entrances and exits of the station, except for the square exit, will be closed.

The Istanbul Governor's Office had previously issued a statement regarding the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day celebrations, reporting that the official applications made by DİSK, KESK, TMMOB, and TTB for Kadıköy Rıhtım Square, and by the TKP for Kartal Square, were deemed appropriate and approved.

According to the Governor's Office statement, rallies, marches, and similar events have been banned in all districts outside of these areas.

Following the Governor's Office's ban decision, adjustments were also made to metro services in Istanbul.

All metro stations leading to Taksim and its surroundings have been closed.

In a post made on its social media account, Metro Istanbul stated that it made the announcement in line with the decision of the Istanbul Governor's Office, saying:

“In line with the decision taken by the Istanbul Governor's Office, our services on Friday, May 1st, will be operated as follows until further notice:

• The Şişhane, Taksim, and Osmanbey stations of our M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman metro line will be closed to service, and our vehicles will continue their journey without stopping at these stations.

• Our F1 Taksim-Kabataş funicular and T3 Kadıköy-Moda tram line will be closed to service.

Furthermore, all entrances and exits of the Şişli-Mecidiyeköy station, except for the Square exit, will be closed to passenger use.”
