MGM issues heavy snowfall warning for Istanbul: Disruptions in transportation possible
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has issued a heavy snowfall warning for Istanbul. In its statement, the MGM reported that heavy snowfall is expected across Istanbul tomorrow (February 20).
Stating that snowfall in Istanbul will increase in intensity from tomorrow until Sunday, the MGM warned citizens to be careful. While noting that icing and frost are expected, the MGM drew attention to the fact that transportation will be disrupted throughout the province.
The following statements were included in the MGM announcement:
'Starting from the morning hours of Thursday (20.02.2025), the snowfall expected across the province is forecast to continue until Sunday afternoon, being strong (10-20 cm) and locally heavy (20 cm and above) on Friday and Saturday. As icing and frost are expected to be effective across the province until Monday afternoon, it is necessary to be careful and cautious against negative conditions such as disruptions in transportation, icing, frost, and blizzard-like precipitation.'
