MHP criticizes left-wing circles over İmamoğlu: 'It contradicts their fundamental principles'
MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir targeted the reactions from left-wing circles regarding the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu. Özdemir stated, 'It is impossible to understand how those who claim to fight for labor now follow in the footsteps of capital circles.'
Defending the arrest of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Özdemir claimed that the CHP acts according to the demands of capital circles. Criticizing the CHP's boycott calls, Özdemir opposed the support left-wing circles have shown for the main opposition party.
Özdemir argued that the support left-wing circles have given to İmamoğlu creates an ideological inconsistency. The MHP official stated, 'Defending a figure facing corruption allegations contradicts the fundamental principles of these circles.'
Continuing his remarks, Özdemir defended the arrest decision and used the following expressions:
'For a revolutionary understanding that once claimed to defend the rights of labor and the working class to now set out to defend corruption, and to beg for support from foreign circles while doing so, cannot be explained by degeneration alone.'
Referring to İmamoğlu's political background, Özdemir added the following:
'It is thought-provoking that those with a revolutionary past are defending a figure with roots in the Motherland Party. This mindset, which has severed its ties with the nation and distanced itself from current realities, has no future.'
