MHP Leader Bahçeli's 'Terror-Free Turkey' proposal met with 'we will re-evaluate' response: AKP says 'roadmap will be updated'

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements following the AKP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting.

Speaking about the "Terror-Free Turkey process," Çelik said the following:

"Dear friends, a Terror-Free Turkey is a process that the People's Alliance supports and is building as a whole. Undoubtedly, I have mentioned this before. This process, initiated by the People's Alliance with Mr. Devlet Bahçeli's historic call and our President turning it into a state policy by issuing instructions, is currently continuing as a state policy. We have a great deal of experience here.

In terms of evaluating this from the perspective of Turkish history and addressing it under today's conditions, while there are some correct interpretations, a large number of incorrect interpretations can also emerge. I will not address these one by one. I address them on various occasions.

I will address them in the future as well. When you look at it from this perspective, the People's Alliance is acting as one and a whole in terms of the Terror-Free Turkey process reaching its goals. These processes have their own rhythm by nature. It has a rhythm unique to itself that cannot be compared to the other rhythms of politics. From that perspective, we are continuing this process uninterruptedly and with a strong will in terms of the People's Alliance and the AK Party.

The goal here is for terrorism and the terrorist organization to be removed from Turkey's agenda. Many studies have been conducted regarding this. Thanks to this strong will demonstrated by the People's Alliance on the political dimension, the instructions of our President that turned this into a state policy, and the commission established with the participation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in this process, along with the support given to this commission by other political parties, extremely comprehensive, broad, and high-level evaluations have been made.

This process is being carried out strongly. As stated in the commission report and the relevant evaluations of the Grand Assembly, the main goal is for the terrorist organization to lay down its arms and for the dissolution process to be completed once the laying down of arms is confirmed. Of course, as also stated in the commission report, the legal regulations to be made along with this and some policies to be developed later are also essential, and this framework has been established.

The AK Party and the Nationalist Movement Party have put their signatures on this as the People's Alliance. Other parties also put their signatures. Therefore, we can state that a report reflecting everyone's will is clearly and explicitly visible there. We are carrying out these studies both on the government side and at the AK Party Headquarters together with our colleagues authorized by our President, and the work is continuing without interruption.

Of course, it is very important for the disarmament process to continue, be completed, and for the verification mechanism to confirm this. Beyond that, the legal dimension and some other dimensions mentioned in the commission report are also on everyone's agenda. From the moment the process began, the process has been carried out with intense coordination within the framework of the instructions given by our President to state institutions.

These are presented to our President in the Council of Ministers and other government and cabinet channels. We are also continuing this in the party together with the commission authorized by our President. All the speeches Mr. Devlet Bahçeli has made since the beginning of this process are extremely strong and valuable statements in terms of removing the obstacles before Turkey and ridding Turkey of terrorism. We find each of them extremely valuable, we are working on them, and we are advancing the process by making the most comprehensive evaluations regarding them so far. Because the People's Alliance is acting as one and a whole here.

“We will re-evaluate the work”

I can even say that Mr. Bahçeli's statements are extremely valuable statements that bring new openings and will carry the literature developed so far in the world regarding removing terrorism and the terrorist organization from the agenda further. We are also taking his statements onto our agenda in the strongest way and evaluating them. Of course, the roadmap needs to be updated at various stages. Mr. Bahçeli is also talking about this. Taking into account the instructions of our President and the latest statements made by Mr. Bahçeli, we will re-evaluate the work we have done so far.

Of course, we will continue on our path by updating our roadmap. Let no one have any doubts about this. There is only one intention here. To reach the goal of the Terror-Free Turkey process. We will not allow this goal, which we announced from the beginning, to be hindered by unfair criticisms, provocations, political slanders, or political sabotage. We see the political sabotage at various times here.

We see the political injustices and political slanders. We have given our answers to these when the time came. We see the political provocations. We are following and identifying especially those that are foreign-sourced very closely. Of course, we also clearly see the approaches that stand against this and try to condemn this issue to certain narrow ideological agendas. We are both working uninterruptedly and keeping our will extremely strong on this matter so that the issue remains on the main path and continues on its main line.

Therefore, at the point reached today, our work regarding the steps that need to be taken to achieve more concrete results in the coming days, regarding the roadmap, and regarding the issues that need to be updated is continuing and will continue to continue."
