MHP mayor resigns citing 'unfortunate events': Notable statement from his party
News of a resignation has come from an MHP-run municipality. Sorgun Mayor Mustafa Erkut Ekinci announced his resignation from his party while making a notable statement.
In a statement on his social media account, Ekinci said, "I am resigning from my MHP membership, to which I belong, so that the unfortunate events that have occurred in recent days do not harm my party and my fellow party members with whom I have walked this path."

MHP Deputy Chairman and Ankara MP Sadir Durmaz stated, "Sorgun Mayor Mustafa Erkut Ekinci has been removed from our list of mayors due to behaviors incompatible with our party principles and policies."

HE HAD DEFEATED HIS AKP RIVAL BY A WIDE MARGIN
In the 2024 local elections, Ekinci was elected mayor after finishing the race 21 percent ahead of the AK Party candidate, Murat Gürbüz.
