Türkgün newspaper targeted journalists in an article titled "Halk TV's amateur detective work." The article stated, "Halk TV, which has been trying to smear the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Idealist Hearths (Ülkü Ocakları) over a murder committed in Ankara, has fallen into a tragicomic situation. The channel, which published a warning spot, shared a note stating, 'We have no relationship with those conducting commercial relations under the name Halk TV.' While it has emerged that those who have been secretly playing detective in their programs for months over the Sinan Ateş murder were swindled in the blink of an eye, what happened behind the scenes has become a matter of curiosity."

Murat Ağırel, one of the journalists targeted by Türkgün newspaper, spoke to 12punto. Stating that journalists who report on the subject are being targeted as the trial date for the Sinan Ateş murder approaches, Ağırel said:

"As the trial date for the Sinan Ateş murder approaches, they are putting journalists who write, comment, and bring the issue to the agenda in their crosshairs. It is unknown whether the goal is to prevent the perpetrators behind the Sinan Ateş murder from being revealed, but these things require explanation. The truth has a habit of coming out. The people who are targeting us are already obvious. Barış Terkoğlu has also shared these individuals. Prosecutors are already accepting such posts as reports and filing criminal complaints. We will not have any additional action such as filing a criminal complaint. We see what journalism has come to. This has gone beyond mere targeting."

'WE WILL EXPOSE THE LAWLESS ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO OBEY THE LAW'

On the other hand, Murat Ağırel, who also reacted to the incident via social media accounts, shared the following from Barış Terkoğlu, Barış Pehlivan, and Timur Soykan:

“'They have been very hurt because of the concrete facts in the indictment and its annexes. They were even so hurt that we exposed the cocaine dealers in Mersin that they expressed their anger in the text! These people, who remained silent until yesterday about the murder of their friends whom they called 'Reis' (Chief), and the FETÖ and mafia-remnant hitmen on social media are trying to spread fear by slandering and threatening us in the face of documented reality. We will teach you documented, investigative journalism that stands with the people, and that the pen is a matter of honor. Do not share our passport photos, share our full-length photos. Because we will expose this murder, those who planned the murder, those who supported the murder, in other words, the lawless, on behalf of those who obey the laws.'

These people, who were arm-in-arm with those who tried to send President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan behind bars and plot to capture MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan with their FETÖist brothers until yesterday, are now up to new plots.'

BARIŞ TERKOĞLU: "THE SNAKE YOU HOLD WILL BITE YOU TOMORROW"

“We will continue to play detective for the killers who do business with drug dealers. Let them wave their bloody rags over our heads. I am leaving a short series of photos below. These are the posts of the person at Türkgün when we were in prison with Zekeriya Öz's indictment in February 2012. Remember, the prosecutors who arrested us had summoned MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan to testify that day. Look at what the person wrote: 'Erdoğan does not want to lose his black box Hakan Fidan to the prosecutor', 'Erdoğan will go to where he started, behind bars'. Let me not prolong it... The three-crescent drug dealer who is threatening us today, the hitman of the criminal organization that murdered Sinan Ateş; yesterday he was threatening to put Hakan Fidan and Erdoğan in prison together with his Fethullahist brothers. I am warning not the hitman, but his owners: The snake you hold will bite you tomorrow. By the way... where do you actually chat with those who sniff glue?”

BARIŞ PEHLİVAN: "OUR PEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONGER THAN YOUR WEAPONS, STICKS, AND INDICTMENTS"

“We do not forget, we do not let be forgotten. Our memory and the pen that draws strength from it will continue to be stronger than your weapons, sticks, and indictments. Bring it on!”

TİMUR SOYKAN: "THERE IS NO ONE WHO IS TRULY POWERFUL"

They want to cover up the murder with threats. Everyone knows: Someone from within the state provides cell phone signal information, police officers transport the hitmen and bring them to the door. The killers are whisked away in vehicles with flashing lights. A half-baked indictment is written regarding the murder and the killers are protected. A difficult country. Of course, continuing journalism. There is no one who is truly powerful.

AYŞE ATEŞ: THE SAFETY OF OUR TARGETED JOURNALISTS IS ESSENTIAL

Ayşe Ateş, the wife of the former Idealist Hearths President Sinan Ateş, who was killed in an assassination, supported journalists Timur Soykan, Murat Ağırel, Barış Pehlivan, and Barış Terkoğlu, who were targeted in the Türkgün newspaper, known for its closeness to the MHP.

The social media post of Ayşe Ateş, who supported the journalists, is as follows:

"I thank all the brave, honorable, and determined journalists of this country, especially Barış Pehlivan, Barış Terkoğlu, Timur Soykan, and Murat Ağırel, who have shown a superhuman struggle to shed light on the Sinan Ateş assassination with the awareness that it is not a simple murder case, and who have stood against all threats like a wall of steel, once again in your presence.

Especially after listening to this speech by Barış Terkoğlu, which I believe should be noted in history, the following lines of Namık Kemal came to my mind:

Even if the executioner's life-consuming lasso is a dragon of wrath,

It is still a thousand times better than the chains of captivity.

Let fate gather and bring all its instruments of torment,

If I turn back from a march on the path of the nation, I am a scoundrel...

In the period that has passed, we saw that it was not only Sinan Ateş who was targeted and murdered in Çukurambar. Our dear nation was also targeted there. Our nation's belief in justice, its peace, and its security were also murdered there.

That is why I always say this: This is not just a struggle for justice. This is a struggle to cleanse a nation's streets of darkness, evil, and lawlessness. Our honorable journalists who struggle on the path of the nation are the thousand-horse raiders of this struggle against a giant army.

The safety of our targeted journalists is essential."
