MHP proposes bill against media outlets receiving 'funding'
MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir has submitted a bill to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) proposing the revocation of licenses for media institutions and organizations that receive funding, on the grounds that they 'threaten national security.'
The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has taken action against media institutions and organizations that receive funding from associations and foundations.
MHP Deputy Chairman and Kayseri MP İsmail Özdemir has submitted a bill to revoke the licenses of media institutions and organizations that receive funding, citing the reason that they "threaten national security."
In a statement regarding the bill on his social media account, Özdemir said, "In recent years, information has frequently been reflected in the public domain that some foreign foundations and associations have been funding certain broadcasting organizations and media outlets operating in our country under various pretexts. It is also understood that the organizations receiving funding are carrying out activities against Turkey's national security. Following the parliamentary question we submitted to our Ministry of Interior on the subject, we have now submitted our bill to the parliament regarding the revocation of the licenses of media organizations and broadcasting outlets that receive funding from foreign foundations and associations, which are subject to RTÜK supervision and approval."
