MHP reacts to Pope's visit to Turkey: Bahçeli called the producer of that series
The MHP criticized Pope Leo XIV's contacts in Turkey, expressing the view that the visit was "performative" and fueled religious divisions.
The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has issued a sharp response to the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Turkey. MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın made an assessment regarding the program, which covers the dates of November 27–December 2.
Yalçın used the following expressions in his statement:
"As is known, Pope Leo XIV is paying a visit to Turkey between November 27 and December 2. It is observed that this visit, which contains planned messages directed at the Christian world and aims to stir up both historical and religious divisions, has been turned into a kind of show.
Indeed, during the Nicaea portion of the visit in question, a Council Meeting that took place 1700 years ago in 325 was reenacted, and a flamboyant ceremony was held.
This purposeful ceremony, organized on Turkish lands that are the legacy of the Seljuks and Ottomans with the goal of uniting and integrating the Christian world, has caused discomfort in public opinion.
In this context, the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party, our Leader Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, also called Mehmet Bozdağ, the screenwriter and producer of the series Kuruluş Orhan, which is being broadcast on the ATV channel, and underlined that the series is a very important, instructive, and cautionary work in terms of Turkish history and the geography of Anatolia.
Our Chairman also recommended that this successful series, which he follows closely, be watched by our nation with sensitivity and interest."
