MHP's Celal Adan warns AKP benches to 'behave': Tense moments in the General Assembly
Tense moments occurred in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, which convened under the chairmanship of Celal Adan. After continued interruptions from the AKP group benches despite his warnings to remain quiet, Adan turned to the AKP benches and said, "No heckling. Why are you shouting? Come up here and speak. Is this the street?"
The TBMM General Assembly convened under the chairmanship of MHP Deputy Speaker Celal Adan to discuss the 'Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Certain Regulations Regarding the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and Certain Other Laws.'
Taking the floor for an off-agenda speech, AKP İstanbul Deputy Yahya Çelik argued that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) remained insufficient and insensitive in fulfilling its promises regarding work on earthquake risk in Istanbul.
Following Çelik's speech, a dispute broke out between CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın, DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli, and AKP Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu.
"BEHAVE"
Intervening in the dispute, TBMM Deputy Speaker Celal Adan said, "Why are you shouting? Why are you shouting? Come up here and speak. Is this the street? Behave."
Adan continued, "Distinguished deputies, if there is any unrest or misunderstanding, it is shameful to shout from there to here.
Whoever does this shouting, even if it is done by our own group, I will intervene.
Shouting is shameful; walk 3 meters, have a tea outside, and resolve the issue that is not understood.
What will you achieve by shouting? It does not befit the Assembly to stall its work with such trivial matters."
