MHP statement in Parliament on Mehmet Akif Ersoy: 'We know who is acting insidiously...'

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık made striking statements regarding the drug investigation involving former Habertürk TV Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy, which has occupied the public agenda, during his speech at the budget negotiations ongoing in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

"A WAR WITHIN THE STATE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED AT THE START OF EVERY NEW PERIOD"

Claiming that the investigation in question closely concerns both the AKP and many figures within the AKP, Şık said, "The 1st MİT report in 1987, the Susurluk or Ergenekon processes were operations used to redesign the state. In other words, a war within the state was experienced at the start of every new period. What is happening now is no different."

Şık continued his speech as follows:

"The investigation into Ersoy, whose protective shield we do not know who removed, when, or why, also tells us that there is a power struggle within the Palace. A gang consisting of business people, lawyers, media executives, members of the judiciary, popular screen faces, and bureaucrats is being built with money laundering and drugs at the center. The subjects of the investigation are not the same for now. But they may lead to the same points in terms of connected names. All of these investigations are skeleton keys that will open any door whenever desired."

The response to these statements by Şık from the MHP front was not delayed. MHP Group Deputy Chairman Erkan Akçay stated the following:

"Mr. Ahmet Şık mentioned our party's name in his speech. Of course, this is not in the nature of a reply, but I took the floor to express my opinion on a matter.

I want to say this much: The People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) is a selfless, unaccountable, and national alliance that has no precedent in Turkish and world politics.

The People's Alliance is moving forward with firm steps under the determined, sincere, and strong leadership of our wise leader Mr. Devlet Bahçeli and our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The People's Alliance is a principled alliance; its scope, nature, and extent are clear.

'WE ALSO RECOGNIZE THE INSIDIOUS ONES LURKING IN THE BUSHES'

We know very well who and which segments are uncomfortable with this alliance, and who is acting insidiously as a tool. I say, let's move past those who are pursuing small and personal agendas, and we also recognize the insidious ones lurking in the bushes.

As for the MHP, since its founding on February 9, 1969, conspiracies have been plotted and provocations have been carried out against it from abroad and within the country; the operations of certain secret or open circles have never ended.

We have reached these days by neutralizing all conspiracies and operations. Our struggle will continue from now on as well; we know very well who is who."
