'Mike Tyson' and 'penicillin' questions at TCDD: Asked during promotion exam

The Republic of Türkiye State Railways (TCDD) included a question in its promotion exam asking what name the world heavyweight boxing champion, American Mike Tyson, used after converting to Islam.

Tyson, who became a Muslim in 1990, took the name "Malik Abdulaziz." In the same exam, the question "Who discovered penicillin?" was also asked. Penicillin, used in the treatment of infectious diseases, was discovered by the Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming in 1929.

Another question in the exam was "What is Torricelli's law?" The system, described as "a fluid dynamics principle explaining the relationship between the exit velocity of a liquid in a container and the height of the liquid," was discovered by the Italian scientist Evangelista Torricelli in 1643.

'THERE IS FAVORITISM AT TCDD'

According to a report in Sözcü, CHP Shadow Minister of Transport and Sivas Deputy Ulaş Karasu reacted to the fact that railway employees were asked questions unrelated to their professions. BTS General President Tonguç Özkan also criticized the situation, stating, "There is favoritism at TCDD, there is lawlessness. The management has distributed titles such as regional controller, office chief, station manager, station master, security chief, branch manager, and expert to people close to them. Those without ties to a community or sect, or without a minister, deputy, or influential relative, were eliminated; merit is gone."
