Minister Fidan: Ceasefire must also include Lebanon
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Shaibani, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that they welcome the ceasefire in Iran and declared, "Israeli expansionism must end."
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Shaibani.
Highlights from Minister Fidan's statements are as follows:
Our region has been facing one of the most serious challenges in its recent history with the war that began on February 28. In the face of this war, which has created serious global repercussions, we have maintained close cooperation and a high volume of diplomatic contact with our neighbors and partners under the leadership of our President.
WE WELCOME THE CEASEFIRE DECISION
We have worked to end the war, and we welcome the ceasefire decision reached with the active support we provided to the initiative of brotherly Pakistan. It is also important that the parties demonstrate a conciliatory, flexible, patient, and constructive attitude during the talks to be held in Pakistan.
LESSONS MUST BE LEARNED FROM CRISES
Lessons must be learned from the crises experienced, and it is essential to act with common sense against Israel's actions aimed at sabotaging negotiation efforts. In particular, the world public must also be prepared against Israel's acts of sabotage.
CEASEFIRE MUST ALSO INCLUDE LEBANON
The world public must be in a position to respond appropriately to Israel's potential sabotage moves. Israel is now moving its genocide in Gaza to Lebanon. We hope that the ceasefire will be permanent and will also cover Lebanon on the ground. We are following Israel's actions in the West Bank with concern during this period when international law is being trampled upon.
I reiterate that as Turkey, we are ready to play an active role and provide all kinds of support in this process.
KEEPING SYRIA AWAY FROM CRISES IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
One of the important building blocks in our region is undoubtedly the stability of our neighbor, Syria. The Syrian people have struggled with violence for 14 years and achieved a historic revolution on December 8, 2024. Our Syrian brothers and sisters have made exceptional progress, advancing with determination in the political and economic reconstruction of their country during this time.
It is extremely important that Syria be kept away from the crises occurring in our region. This goal is essentially the background of the talks we have been conducting with Syria recently.
