Minister Fidan's reaction to Israel over Sumud: We condemn it

Minister Fidan stated, "Israel has intervened in the Global Sumud flotilla. We condemn this act of piracy in the strongest possible terms. We are continuing the necessary initiatives to ensure our citizens are released as soon as possible."

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is in Berlin, the capital of Germany, for the Third Meeting of the Turkey-Germany Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, was received by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Minister Fidan later held a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

Minister Fidan's statements are as follows:

Distinguished members of the press, I have come to Germany after a short interval as the guest of my dear friend, the German Foreign Minister. He has also visited Turkey twice. Recently, developments have taken place between Turkey and Germany that demonstrate the will put forward by both countries. We intend for Turkey and Germany to develop partnerships in more areas.

I was also received by Chancellor Merz. I conveyed the messages of our President. Germany is our largest trading partner in Europe and our second largest in the world. We believe that we can increase our bilateral trade volume, which is at the level of 52 billion dollars, to 60 billion dollars in the near term.

I also had the opportunity to discuss the EU membership process with my dear friend. Our fundamental expectation is that relations with Turkey and the EU candidacy process be conducted independently of political motives.
