Minister Fidan's statement on Montreux: 'We will continue to implement it to the letter'
Fidan spoke at a joint press conference held after his meeting with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Stating that they will continue to implement the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits to the letter, Fidan said, "Let alone discussing this issue, it is not even a matter of consideration."

Minister Fidan stated, "As the implementer of the Montreux Convention, maintaining calm in the Black Sea and preventing initiatives that would jeopardize this are among our primary priorities."
Emphasizing that they are pleased with the memorandum regarding the establishment of the "Mine Countermeasures Task Group" in the Black Sea between Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania, Fidan said that they view this as an exemplary case for regional security cooperation.
Fidan expressed that, as littoral countries, they see this as a step consistent with both the principle of regional ownership and the spirit of alliance.
