Minister Gürlek: 19 cold case murders solved

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that, thanks to the work carried out by the Department for Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, a total of 19 cold case murders across 16 files have been solved nationwide, and that a re-evaluation process is underway for 638 files in 75 provinces.

In a post on his social media account, Minister Gürlek stated that they continue their determined struggle to ensure justice and protect the peace of citizens. Emphasizing that inter-institutional cooperation in the fields of security and justice has strengthened under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Gürlek highlighted that solving missing person cases and cold case murders that have caused significant public concern is among their priority goals.

Gürlek stated, "We see solving cold case murders and missing person cases that deeply wound the public conscience, and bringing relief to the hearts of our grieving families, as our highest priority."

It was stated that all resources have been mobilized to shed light on events that have remained unsolved from the past to the present, as a result of the comprehensive work carried out by the Department for Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, which was specially established under the Ministry of Justice.

Minister Gürlek noted that the success achieved lies in the coordinated work of state institutions and thanked all institutions that contributed, especially the Ministry of Interior.

According to the information provided by Gürlek, 638 cold case files are being meticulously re-examined in 75 provinces. While 141 files containing 147 victims are being investigated in 52 cities, public prosecutor's offices and law enforcement agencies are gathering evidence with special task forces in 44 files involving 47 victims, working with painstaking effort.

Gürlek said, "I wholeheartedly thank our Public Prosecutor's Offices, which are shedding light on cold case investigations by gathering evidence with painstaking effort, our heroic police and gendarmerie organizations working selflessly day and night in the field, and all our public officials who contributed to the process. No cold case will remain in the dark; justice will surely be served, sooner or later."
