Minister Memişoğlu announces 'new city hospitals are coming'

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu made important statements during a program he attended.

Highlights from Minister Memişoğlu's statements are as follows:

"We actually issued and revised a regulation in November, and our 31 thousand family physicians are providing service. I thank them. There is one-on-one follow-up in terms of both monitoring and protection.

We screened 42 million people for chronic diseases. We found 10 million of them to be at risk. We have followed up and treated 5 million of these. They are also taking the load off hospitals.

Since the family physician also knows the individual's history, when an application is made through the family physician, they refer the patient to the hospital if they deem it necessary. They also make the appointment themselves and inform the specialist doctor. That physician becomes informed and treats the patient if there is a disease requiring specialization. The family physician can also see this in the electronic environment.

NEW CITY HOSPITALS ARE COMING

We have built 27 city hospitals so far. The one in Ordu is finished, and it will also start accepting patients as soon as possible. 12 of them are under construction. We will complete Trabzon, Şanlıurfa, Samsun, and Rize within this year. These are thousand-bed hospitals. The construction of Sancaktepe City Hospital is also continuing.

We also have plans. They are planned in İzmir, Tokat, and Konya. The construction of FSM in Bostancı has started. There is the renovation of Bakırköy Sadi Konuk. When you look at it, the number of hospitals we will finish in 2027 is 117. Turkey has undergone a major renewal in health with the AK Party since 2003. 794 of the 971 state hospitals were newly built. We have 184 thousand patient rooms with toilets and bathrooms. We also have a bed capacity of more than 270 thousand.

"WE ARE NOT SELLING ANY OF OUR HOSPITALS"

Recently, there has been an allegation that 'health lands are being sold'. We are not selling any of our hospitals. We have taken action regarding places that have remained idle and are not being used. There is a study on this. Yes, we will evaluate some of these.

THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS WAITING FOR APPOINTMENTS HAS DECREASED

As of the end of 2024, about 4 million of our citizens could not find appointments. We both planned our appointments accordingly and made a major investment in clinics equipped with devices. Currently, the number of patients waiting for appointments has dropped to 400 thousand. In some branches, there are none, and in some branches, we will soon solve the appointment problem. The reason I don't say there is no appointment problem is because when you go to your family physician, you can get an appointment from there if there is a real problem. I want to say this: go to your family physician first. The family physician should be the first physician to go to."
