Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Yumaklı: 'Changes to the Agriculture Law are revolutionary'

Yumaklı stated that the changes made to the Agriculture Law last year were accepted by the sector as revolutionary, saying, “Agriculture is an issue above politics. Of course, there are and will be problems. It is our duty to solve them.”
WE HAVE MADE REVOLUTIONARY CHANGES
Minister Yumaklı emphasized that they aim to increase Turkey's agricultural potential. Claiming that some issues are being brought to the agenda recently to overshadow important changes, Yumaklı said, “The changes made to the agriculture law last year are considered revolutionary by the sector. Agriculture is an issue above politics, and we will try to solve the problems by taking all kinds of criticism on this subject into account.”
Sharing developments in tea production, Yumaklı stated that fresh tea production has increased by 72 percent in the last 22 years, yield per decare by 66 percent, and dry tea production by 100 percent.
Drawing attention to the increase in purchases by Çaykur and the private sector, Yumaklı said, “Çaykur's purchases were 213 thousand tons in the 1st harvest and 279 thousand tons in the 2nd harvest. I would like to state that the quota per decare will be applied as 600 kilograms in the 3rd harvest.”
'WE ARE BEING METICULOUS REGARDING TEA PRICES'
Touching upon the work done regarding tea prices, Yumaklı said that prices are determined meticulously to ensure that tea producers do not suffer and to ensure the sustainability of production. Yumaklı stated, “We are being meticulous regarding tea prices. Our goal is to determine a price that will prevent producers from suffering and support sustainability.”
