Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Yumaklı delivers bad news: He said the risk is growing even further!
Turkey's lungs are burning as a heatwave hits. Speaking about the ongoing forest fires in Karabük, Bursa, and Kahramanmaraş, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said, "We will continue to remain on high alert."
Turkey is once again battling forest fires that have increased during the summer months. With temperatures rising above seasonal norms, forest fires have broken out one after another in many regions. Flames have been raging for days in the Safranbolu district of Karabük, the Kestel and Harmancık districts of Bursa, and the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş.
The forest fire in Karabük, which has entered its 6th day, has not yet been brought under control. The fires in Kestel and Harmancık, Bursa, have been ongoing for 3 days. Teams are working day and night in these challenging areas.
MINISTER YUMAKLI: WE ARE ON HIGH ALERT
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made important statements regarding the ongoing fires. Stating that this week is particularly critical in terms of fire risk, Yumaklı expressed that the teams are working intensively in the field:
"We are in a very risky week. We will continue to remain on high alert. The energy of the Karabük fire has been reduced. We will provide good news regarding this fire in the coming hours. The Bursa Kestel fire has been largely extinguished. The Harmancık fire, however, is still ongoing."
Minister Yumaklı also provided information about the resources used in responding to the fires. It was stated that against the fires continuing across Turkey:
5 aircraft,
30 helicopters,
855 land vehicles,
853 forest fire suppression personnel are on duty.
