Minister Tekin clarifies efforts to streamline the education curriculum: 'The child is failing'

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who was in Gaziantep for a series of programs and opening ceremonies, attended an "Iftar with Teachers and School Administrators" program held at a restaurant. Speaking at the program, Minister Yusuf Tekin touched upon the importance of simplifying the curriculum and provided information about the justifications.

Making important statements during the program, Minister Tekin said, "I would like to point out one issue in particular, friends. It is this: almost all of the work we have been doing since June focuses on taking measures to protect the professional dignity, reputation, and honor of our teacher colleagues. We act by considering these issues in every step we take."

Speaking about the efforts to streamline the education curriculum, Minister Tekin said, "One of the issues that has been a subject of much debate in recent days is the work related to the curriculum, the discussions about the curriculum. There, too, one of the reasons for the curriculum work we are doing, alongside other reasons, is this, friends.

Now, we have a high number of learning outcomes in our courses. Our teachers find our weekly course hours insufficient. As such, the outputs of our students regarding these learning outcomes are not at the level we desire, nor are they at the level society desires.

The child is failing because we are trying to load them with learning outcomes that are above the pedagogical requirements of their age. The child is failing. Because the child is failing, the teacher is automatically failing as well.

Therefore, we say that we should not overload our children, we should give them what they can handle, and we should provide our teachers with the time interval in which they can best convey what they need to teach to the students. Therefore, this is one of the important justifications for the issue regarding the streamlining in the curriculum studies. As a 'maarif' (educational) family of 1 million 200 thousand people, we are at a level to easily overcome all these problems. We will overcome them all together, God willing," he said.
