Minister Tekin gives date for delayed teacher payments

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made a statement regarding the delayed payments for contract teachers. Stating that the problem regarding the payments has been resolved, Tekin said, "They will all receive their payments today or tomorrow."

Responding to questions from members of the press before the AKP group meeting, Minister Tekin also answered a question about interviews. "If a friend of ours says, 'I was treated unfairly in the interview,' they have been victimized. We want our friends in this situation to evaluate the objection processes. Other than that, I do not know what other kind of grievance there could be," he said.

Tekin stated the following:

"As you all know, we conducted the interviews as follows; the teacher candidate taking the exam had their identity hidden; their name, surname, hometown, in other words, all personal information that could be the subject of nepotism allegations were hidden during the interview. Similarly, the names, identities, and positions of all 3 jury members were hidden with a code, so neither the jury members know the candidate nor the candidate knows the jury members. It is not information that anyone can access. This is a precaution.

Our second precaution was this; the answers to the questions given to the candidate, that is, the question they determined in an electronic environment, were also shared with the jury members. The jury members marked what answer was expected from the candidate for the question here. Such an interview environment was created. With the situation like this, for there to be a grievance, there must be an illegality. There is no illegality here. However, our friends say this; 'A friend who took the exam in another province got a higher grade than me,' they say. This can happen; this interview is evaluated according to your performance at that moment. Therefore, if there is any friend who claims that there is an illegality, injustice, or unfairness regarding the interviews, if they apply to us or to judicial bodies officially, we will do what is necessary."

Speaking about the delay in the wages of master instructors and contract teachers, Yusuf Tekin used the following expressions:

"Our procedure regarding master instructors and contract teachers works as follows; we put a certain number of courses in the budget every year. Sometimes we exceed the limit defined for us based on the courses opened during the year, the number of trainees, and the lesson hours. In other words, let's say we open approximately 60 million hours of courses during the year. Sometimes this number exceeds the limit defined for us in the budget. When it exceeds it, the Head of the Presidency of Strategy and Budget and the Minister of Treasury and Finance meet our demands. Currently, all the problems of these friends of ours have been solved. They will all receive their payments today or tomorrow."
