Minister Tekin: We anticipate a phased transition
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, in his statement regarding the controversial new curriculum, said, "We anticipate a phased transition. We have designated the entry-level grades of each educational stage as the classes where the new curriculum will begin to be implemented."
Since coming to power, the AKP has made changes to educational programs exactly 18 times.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made statements regarding the new curriculum, which has been criticized for its unscientific and archaic content and was announced to the public as the "Turkey Century Education Model."
Attending the Education Council Meeting held at the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Minister Tekin shared details on how the transition to the new curriculum will be carried out.
Regarding objections from the opposition concerning the brevity of the public review period, Tekin stated, "We had given a one-week period for the review process. We had said that if qualified contributions continued, we would extend the process. The Board of Education and Discipline is monitoring and analyzing the trend of contributions to the review process every day. When we look at the charts, the rates of contribution have now begun to decline."
'THE OLD PROCESS WILL CONTINUE FOR INTERMEDIATE GRADES'
Stating that they will complete the process by Friday, Tekin said, "We anticipate a phased transition. We have designated the entry-level grades of each educational stage as the classes where the new curriculum will begin to be implemented. As for the intermediate grades, they will continue exactly as they are with the old process, the old curriculum, and the old materials. We have no decision or plan regarding them."
