Minister Tekin's 'Fatiha and Condolence' Curriculum Remarks: 'The Opposition Says They Shouldn't Learn'

Minister Tekin, who came to Elazığ for various engagements, first visited the Elazığ Governor's Office. After signing the Governor's Office Honor Book, Tekin met with Governor Numan Hatipoğlu and received a briefing on the work being carried out in the city.

HE CHATTED WITH STUDENTS AND THEIR GRANDFATHERS

Later, Tekin visited the Sürsürü Kindergarten, where a semester break event aimed at teaching cultural and social values was held, and chatted with the students and their grandfathers who attended the program.

"WE CHANGED THE CURRICULUM; WE WANT CHILDREN TO RECITE FATIHA AND LEARN"

In his speech there, Minister Tekin reminded that they have implemented the Century of Turkey Education Model and changed the curriculum.

Explaining that they want children to learn customs and traditions and to take their grandfathers and fathers as examples, Tekin stated the following:

"(The opposition) They say, 'They shouldn't learn.' I say, 'Let's officially put this in schools, let our teachers teach this as part of the lesson.' And these people come out and say, 'You are reactionary.' I say, 'The Century of Turkey Education Model is exactly this.' Let our children learn their traditions, customs, and culture. We are not saying they shouldn't learn other things. They will learn those too, but they should learn this so that this society can live together.

When there is an earthquake or a fire tomorrow, they should help each other. When someone close to them is in trouble or passes away, they should recite a Fatiha and learn how to offer condolences. We want them to visit the graves of their ancestors and grandparents, recite prayers, and learn these things. Are we doing something wrong? Because I say this, they criticize me on television every day. Children should learn our language first. How are we going to teach English or mathematics to a child who cannot speak their own language properly? We have started this. They even object to this. I say, 'Anatolia is behind me, say whatever you want.'"

The students' grandfathers also stated that they support the Century of Turkey Education Model and thanked Minister Tekin.

Following the visit, Tekin performed Friday prayers at the Hacı Mehmet Dumandağ Mosque and participated in the Quran recitation and prayer program held there for those who lost their lives in the earthquakes and the fire at the hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center.
