Minister Tunç announces that releases have begun: 50,000 people convicted of fraud, drug offenses, and theft

The amnesty regulation accepted within the scope of the 11th Judicial Package has been implemented. The Minister of Justice announced that the releases have begun. 50,000 people convicted of crimes including fraud, drug offenses, and theftpeople will be released early.

Tunç stated that, within the scope of the 11th JudicialPackage, "Preparations in penal institutions have been completed, and as of today,the procedures for the convicts who will benefit from the regulationhave been initiated."

"IENFORCEMENTOFTHESENTENCEIN OPENPRISONSSYSTEM BEINGPROCESSEDMR"

Tunç stated the following:

"As of July 31, 2023, those who were in closed penal institutions andcould benefit from the earlierreleaseIt is ensured that thoseconvicted of crimes committed on or before the same date can also benefit from the transition to open penal institutions and probation practices. Thus, as of thedate of thecrime,it is ensured that they can also benefit.

Thus, as of the crime datediscrepancies arising amongconvicts insimilar situations arebeing resolved; the principle of equality in execution is beingstrengthened. In this context; for crimes committed on or beforeJuly 31, 2023,thefrom; 3 years earlieropen penal institutions, and the opportunity to be released on probation 3 years earlierisgranted.

The mainpurpose of this regulationis; during the investigation and prosecutionin processes, outside the will of theconvict, to prevent delays that arise from turning into a resultdetrimental to the individual.

Intentional homicide crimesof committed against an ascendant or descendant, or a spouse, ex-spouse, or sibling, a child, or a person who is unable to defend themselves due to physical or mental conditions, or against a woman; homicide crimes resulting from the collapse or damage of buildings or other structures due to an earthquake, or the collapse or damageresulting from homicide crimesCrimes against sexual immunity,terror crimes,and crimes committed within the scope oforganized criminal activityhave been excluded fromthis regulation.
