Minister Tunç: Investigation launched into lawyer who failed to act in accordance with the dignity of the legal profession

Minister of Justice Tunç stated in a post on his social media account,"Article 1 of the Attorneys' Law clearly emphasizes that the practice of law is a public service and that the lawyer represents independent defense, which is one of the constituent elements of the judiciary, in a freemanner."

The responsibility imposed by being a constituent element of the judiciary requires lawyers not only to defend the rights they represent but also to strengthen trust in justice. Any attitude that undermines the seriousness of the law and opens the door to misleading by arbitrarily interpreting legal provisions harms the public's faith in justice," he said.

Announcing that an investigation has been launched into a lawyer registered with the İzmir Bar Association due to posts made on their social media account,MinisterTunç stated,"Article 34 of the Attorneys Actrequires that the legal professionbe carried out with diligence,honesty, and honor;and that lawyersthe respect and trust required by the title ofacting in accordance withand adherence to professional rules. TheUnion of Turkish Bar Associations'professional rules are in the same vein; requiring the lawyer to avoid attitudes and behaviors that would damage the reputation of the profession,torefrain from such actions, and to maintain this sensitivity not only in their professional activities but also in their private lifeit is necessary toobserve theserules.

An investigation has been launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into a lawyer registered with the İzmir Bar Association who was found to have failed to act in accordance with the dignity of the legal profession through their social media posts.The investigation was initiated following the identification of the lawyer.

In accordance with the disciplinaryprovisions of the Attorneys Actand a disciplinary process has been initiated by the relevant bar association to examine whetherthe actions constitute a violation of professional rulesand to conduct the necessary evaluations," he added.
