Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that rumors about the sale of highways do not reflect the truth, stating that work is only being done on the transfer of operating rights. The Minister stated that the final decision will be shaped according to public opinion.
Speaking during a live broadcast, Uraloğlu said that the claims that highways would be sold are completely false. Stating that there is no question of selling public investments, the Minister prevented misunderstandings by saying, "All investments made by the public are the property of the public. There is no question of selling them with their title deeds."
"WE ARE LOOKING AT WHETHER IT WOULD BE MORE BENEFICIAL"
Minister Uraloğlu said that work on the transfer of operating rights for highways is ongoing. Stating that a significant budget is allocated for the maintenance and repair of the 2,000 kilometers of road operated by the General Directorate of Highways, the Minister conveyed that they are evaluating whether the transfer of operating rights would be more beneficial in a joint study conducted with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. He said, "We are conducting a study on whether it will be more beneficial or harmful."
PUBLIC OPINION WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
Uraloğlu reiterated that a situation such as the sale of highways is absolutely out of the question. Stating that public opinion will be the most important factor, the Minister said, "There is no sale involved, we are only working on the transfer of operating rights. We will do whatever the public says."
Drawing attention to the maintenance and operating costs of public highways, the Minister stated that the advantages of the private sector's dynamic operating model are being researched. Uraloğlu said, "The public has operating expenses. There are very serious maintenance and repair costs. We pay for this with cash and it has a cost. We will reveal what happens with the private sector's dynamic operating logic."
