Minister Uraloğlu's 'power bank' advice to airlines: 'Ban them'

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they have advised airlines to ban the use of power banks during flights. This step was brought to the agenda as part of measures taken against portable electronic devices that threaten flight safety.

Uraloğlu recalled that a plane previously flying from Istanbul to Seoul had to return to Istanbul because one of the passengers dropped their power bank between the seats and the device could not be retrieved. 

Minister Uraloğlu pointed out that portable chargers carry a fire risk in cases of jamming or impact, and stated the following:

"Portable chargers pose a fire risk in cases such as jamming, impact, or crushing. Transporting electronic devices in accordance with international aviation standards is of critical importance for flight safety. For this reason, it is of great importance that international rules regarding portable electronic devices are strictly followed.

Previously, a fire occurred on a plane in South Korea as a result of a power bank explosion. To prevent a similar risk from occurring in our country, we have advised our airline operators through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) to ban the use of portable chargers during flights."
